FAQs

  • Dance + music have changed and maybe even saved your life. You know a powerful dance floor can provoke mind-bending bliss, how the right music and environment creat the conditions for magic. You understand that leadership is about more than just playing hits and you’re ready to grow as a human being.

  • Those just looking for basic DJ skills.

Those who don’t crave dance floors where prayers mix with filthy bass to unleash unabashed community anywhere they go.

Those who aren’t ready to turn themselves inside out and embody new levels of artistry, visibility + magnetism.

Those who would rather go it alone than do this journey in a supportive container of connection and accountability.

  • Expect regular epiphanies, creative and personal breakthroughs, crunchy confrontation with your own edges and invitations that walk you beyond your fears into the greatest expression of your embodied leadership through DJing. Direct mentorship from Tasha Blank and the PhDJ Team will lovingly challenge you in all the right places.

This is not an online course. It’s a comprehensive professional and artistic training that makes way for a whole new level of you. If you want to get even more of a feel for what we do here, listen to our grads speak, or check out live sets from any one of our alumni or team.

  • PhDJ includes 3 hours of calls per week, plus assignments and connection with your cohort for feedback and sharing. Expect at least 4 hours of weekly homeplay. If you’re familiar with the joy of DJing, you already know how the time flies and we welcome folks to play above + beyond the minimum time commitment.

Our students are powerhouses with full lives and demanding schedules. Tasha speaks with every single applicant to get clarity around your level of readiness and commitment.

  • Most of our students fall within three categories:

    1. Have never touched a dj deck in their life … and have no idea if they’re capable of actually DJing.

    2. Have been fooling around with the basics for a few months … and want to be way further along.

    3. Have been playing out for several years … and aren’t yet experiencing the traction and success they desire.

All of these are great places to start.

While we’ve had plenty of folks unwrap their first controller the first week of class, and proceed to create extraordinary mixes within the first month of the course — we ask all of our absolute beginners to get started with our DJ Essentials Workshop before the course begins, and come fully prepared to immerse yourself in the Skills Bootcamp that kicks off the program.

Essentials and Bootcamp are designed specifically for beginners get on the level needed to dive into the advanced content of Module 1 onwards.

Our faculty are trained to meet you where you’re at, and support you in riding your personal edge into greater levels of creativity and skill.Item description

  • First: Remember we’re doing this because it’s fun, fulfilling and an giant life upgrade.

Second: Our intimate PhDJ community is a rocket ride designed to build the momentum and camaraderie you need to follow through.

And: We’ve spent a full three years refining our processes to support many kinds of learners in excelling consistently. The support you’ll receive in this container is unlike anything you'll find elsewhere.

That said! If you miss a class or homework assignment here and there, you’ll still be able to follow along and catch up on your own time.

And: there’s no way to fail this class. What you put in is what you get out (x10!) and we’re here to support you in exceeding your own expectations.

You also have access to the replays and materials for life, and will have the opportunity to come back to all of it again and again.

  • We expect those who fully apply the skills we’re sharing to start making back their investment before the end of the program.

    • Early bird tuition is available until January 1 2025, and you’ll discuss those special rates with Tasha on your enrollment call.

    • We offer three payment plans at the regular (non-early bird) rate:

      • Pay in full within seven days of your enrollment call: 9K

      • 5 Month Payment Plan: 10K

      • 11 Month Payment Plan: 11K

    • Due to the international nature of this program, we factor in the different socioeconomic realities our PhDJs experience worldwide. We’re committed to making this program accessible to everyone who’s a true fit.

    • Financial assistance and work study positions are available for those experiencing extenuating financial circumstances. If you’re interested in requesting assistance, we’ll talk it through on your enrollment call.

  • The art of DJing has nothing to do with fancy gear. Some of the greatest DJs of all time used nothing but two turntables to craft their legendary sets. Modern DJ software brings the functionality of those turntables directly to your laptop or iPad.

    • We teach both Native Instruments Traktor Software/hardware, and Rekordbox software/Pioneer hardware.

    • If you’re investing in a proper DJ setup for the first time:

      • We recommend Native Instruments (Traktor) for those who are mostly interested in DJing Ecstatic Dances and other events where a club setup isn’t provided

      • We recommend Rekordbox Software + Pioneer Hardware for those interested in playing at bigger clubs and festivals

      • With either option, your investment should come in under $600.

  • This is a hybrid program. We gather IRL for a three day immersion at the end of Oct (final dates still to be determined). We have folks joining us from all over the globe, and we definitely want you there in person!

The majority of our coaching and curriculum happens virtually through a robust variety of channels, including live virtual classes, an online platform and whatsapp threads with your pod and coaches

You’ll also be creating in-person experiences IRL, so you’ll get plenty of real world, in the flesh experience throughout the program as you continue to connect virtually with your global PhDJ cohort.

We’ve also come to expect lots of informal student-led gatherings. Many students end up visiting each other, traveling together, booking each other and generally becoming besties for life.

  • We capped enrollment at 45 in 2024, and may have a slightly larger cohort in 2025. We’re building a group that unites a diverse set of perspectives as well as cultural, musical and training backgrounds, and we won’t grow faster or larger than what allows for real connection and plenty of personalized attention for every student.

  • Our course materials and community forum lives on CIRCLE: a user friendly community platform and app. It’s basically everything good about facebook without everything you hate ;)

You’ll also be in a small pod led by one of our incredible PhDJ graduates with your fellow PhDJs for mix reviews, sharing, troubleshooting and all around connection any time of day.

  • We’re here to empower you to do what you’re here to do in exactly the way you’re here to do it. Our curriculum will give you the foundation for launching a life of embodied leadership and intelligent entrepreneurship through DJing

Some of our trainees will go on to launch their own events  – or implement the PhDJ principles and culture inside their organizations. Others will go on to become that badass DJs they’ve always wanted to be, wherever and however they want.

Everyone in training is here to make an impact through dance, music and community in alignment with our ethos. Beyond that - everything is totally possible.

  • We teach the high art of DJing: the shamanic path of moving energy through a room + transforming bodies with sound. Music production (making your own original beats) is an entirely different skill set. If you’re looking for a purely technical course, we recommend checking out these resources

  • Group calls will be held on Tuesdays + Fridays from 1:00-2:30pm EST (NYC time).

Tuesdays are jam packed with curriculum, guest teachers and experiential learning. Fridays are for live DJing and Q+A. This is your chance to get hot seat coaching from Tasha + the team, plus personal attention from our incredible guest lineup, so we highly recommend being there live.

There will always be a replay posted shortly after the live class for anyone who needs to miss.

  • So glad you asked! These are the approximate dates for our 2025 cohort. Our schedule is subject to slight shifts as we refine our curriculum.

  • Yes. We’re introducing a new way of sharing music as a collective in our 2025 cohort.

We’ll also provide plenty of tools to find + refine YOUR unique sound … and all the music that expresses what you’re here to bring.

  • Seriously, it took you 14 billion years to get here.

Could you be anything but right on time?

You’ve heard the call.

Does this whole page make you nervous and give you goosebumps?

Down to jump on our spaceship and take the best ride of your life?

“This program has so clearly been crafted with a deeply dedicated intelligence, soulfulness, wisdom, and love, and that it so clearly stems from an earnest desire to make change in this world by helping us - and those we will be serving - to unlearn excruciating socially-imposed patterns of relating to ourselves and the outside world.

The instruction occurs on multiple levels, in which the class content is perhaps the most tangible, but the meta-level design behind this content has us experiencing - and learning through these experiences - new ways to connect with others, a revolutionary style of leadership, the journey of the dance itself, and the wonder and the struggle of deep personal transformation.

There’s something extremely potent transpiring within the structure of the program itself, that is difficult to name. From the first class, I had this sense that I was being catapulted into a new reality, in which I was beginning to transform without having done anything other than bring with me the intention and desire to be moved and to change.”
